ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
The Norwegian striker put Luton on the sword as he was simply at his goalscoring best in the opening hour at Kenilworth Road. It took him just four minutes to open the scoring and he added two more in the 18th and 41st minutes to complete his hat-trick. He was hungry for more and scored again after the resumption of play in the 55th and 58th minute to take his tally to 28 goals across competitions this season. Luton felt the heat of his chemistry with De Bruyne as the Belgian was the architect for four of his goals while Bernardo Silva set him up for the fifth.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Haaland set an incredible record with his five goals; it was his first treble in an away fixture since he joined City in the summer of 2022. Meanwhile, De Bruyne now boasts of having the most assists (11) among his team-mates despite playing just 12 times in an injury-curtailed campaign.

WHAT NEXT?
Luton got a sniff of a comeback with Jordan Clark scoring a brace. However, their hopes of a fairytale were quickly crushed by a marauding Haaland. It was a nightmarish outing for Luton keeper Tim Krul who could have done better on a couple of occasions. Nonetheless, it was a pretty good warm-up for the Norwegian ahead of the blockbuster Manchester derby on Sunday!
